Set to electronic duo Raime's simmering score, this powerful work for the company's group of ten men pulses at the threshold between nature and society.

Murmuring |ˈmərməriNG|

  • a soft, low, or indistinct sound produced by a person or group of people speaking quietly or at a distance.

  • a subdued or private expression of discontent or dissatisfaction

Murmuration |ˌmərməˈrāSHən|

  • the action of murmuring: the murmuration of a flock of warblers.

  • a flock of starlings.

The Murmuring was created for the Balletboyz in September 2014, premiering at the Royal Opera House's Linbury studio. Taking inspiration from the idea of chaotic systems in nature - those that exist in a state of dynamic disequilibrium, always on the verge of change - The Murmuring looks at people through the lens of nature, revealing the tensions between the fluid instability of life and the attempt to exist within a stable political society.
