The Butterfly Effect
Inspired by the science of chaos theory, this work explores themes of time, causality and the unpredictable, creating a dynamic, flowing space linking the delicacy of a butterfly’s wings to the chaotic turbulence of a hurricane.
In Autumn 2021 Alexander was invited to create a new work for Hessisches Staatsballett in Germany.
With an original score by Rival Consoles, lighting design by Guy Hoare and audio responsive visuals by Uncharted Limbo Collective, The Butterfly Effect is presented alongside Untitled Black by Sharon Eyal as part of Hessisches Staatsballett’s Horizons programme.
“I first discovered chaos theory in my early 20’s and was fascinated by its descriptions of irregular, unpredictable, unstable systems and how features of this are found at so many levels of the natural world including the weather, the beating of the human heart and the growth of plants.”
